Youth recreation grant


Positive recreational activities are so important - especially during the teenage years. By involving themselves in healthy pastimes, youth can enjoy tremendous benefits, such as:

  • Improved self-esteem,
  • Strong social skills and leadership abilities, and
  • A lifelong respect for other people.

Our youth recreation grant program provides financial support to local neighbourhood associations and community groups interested in developing recreational/social programs for youths, ages 11 to 17, of all abilities.

Program parameters

Programs that may be considered for a youth recreation grant may focus on, for example:

  • Anti-bullying
  • Arts and culture
  • Crafts
  • Resume writing
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-interest
  • Sports and fitness

A maximum of $300 per program or event is available per calendar year. These funds help cover the wages of staff who lead, coordinate or facilitate the program A group can only apply for one program grant per calendar year.

How to apply

All funding proposals must demonstrate:

  • Support from a recognized Kitchener neighbourhood association or not-for-profit agency;
  • The sponsoring group has secured alternate funding;
  • The program is well-planned and youth-appropriate;
  • The goals and outcomes of the program are being evaluated on a regular basis (minimum once a year); and
  • The program will give regard to persons with disabilities, as identified by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA).
