Update: Tuesday, April 17, 3:13 p.m.

The snow event is now cancelled as of 3 p.m. today. There are no further weather warnings at this time. 

Update: Monday, April 16, 2:08 p.m.

Roads:

  • City declares Snow Event starting at 11:59 p.m. on April 16: Residents to remove cars from streets by midnight or risk being ticketed and towed. Read more about the Snow Event.
  • Staff are initiating a full plow, including residential roads. During the freezing rain staff were focusing on priority 1 and 2 roads (regional roads, arterial roads and GRT bus routes).
  • To help facilitate plowing and salting, avoid parking on roads
  • A reminder to clear snow from sidewalks to make getting around easier for pedestrians 
  • Staff will continue to monitor and clear catch basins to prevent flooding

Facility closures and program cancellations: 

  • Breithaupt Centre - all pools now open
  • Williamsburg Community Association programs are cancelled for today
  • Senior Day Program is cancelled at Rockway Centre
  • Meal program at Downtown Community Centre is cancelled
  • Morning Yoga, Afternoon Pilates, Healthy Baking program and all Judo classes this evening are cancelled at Mill-Courtland Community Centre
  • Doon Pioneer Park Community Association has cancelled the Small Wonders and piano programs
  • All programs are cancelled at Chicopee Community Centre, building will close at 4 p.m. 
  • Programs at the Victoria Hills Community Centre have been cancelled, except for Advance Solo from 1-3:45 p.m.

Staff are currently working to clear residential roads we appreciate your patience. Unfortunately due to the conditions, it is difficult to avoid snow piles at the end driveways. Please do not call our corporate contact centre at this time report residential road conditions.

Update: Sunday, April 15, 1:15 p.m.

Roads:

  • We have 20 trucks continuing to salt and clear priority 1 and 2 roads (regional roads, arterial roads and GRT bus routes) and will do so throughout the day
  • To help facilitate plowing and salting, avoid parking on roads
  • A reminder to clear snow from sidewalks to make getting around easier for pedestrians 
  • In anticipation of the snow turning to rain, staff will be monitoring and clearing catch basins starting with priority 1 and 2 roads to reduce the chances of flooding
  • Staff are monitoring for flooding and will clear blockages that may form on the roadway

Facility closures and program cancellations: 

  • All pools are closed and will reopen Monday at regular opening hours

  • Breithaupt Community Centre is closed and programs have been cancelled

No other City of Kitchener programs have been cancelled at this time. Some rentals have cancelled programs being offered in city facilities. If you participate in a program in a City of Kitchener facility through another organization, please contact them to check on cancellations.

  • Senior Day Program at Downtown Community Centre is cancelled for Saturday.

  • All pools are now closed and will reopen Monday at regular opening hours

  • Breithaupt Community Centre is closed and programs have been cancelled

Facility closures and program cancellations: 

  • Senior Day Program at Downtown Community Centre is cancelled

  • Forest Heights, Breithaupt and Cameron Heights pools are closed

  • Lyle Hallman pool will close at 3:30 p.m. 

  • Breithaupt Community Centre is closed and programs have been cancelled

No other City of Kitchener programs have been cancelled at this time. If you participate in a program in a City of Kitchener facility through another organization, please contact them to check on cancellations. NOTE: If you are renting a room at a City of Kitchener facility, your rental is still scheduled.

How to stay safe:

  • Learn what to do if you experience a power outage
  • If you're using a generator as an alternative power source, make sure you follow these safety precautions
  • Build an emergency kit and have an emergency plan
  • Stay clear of fallen tree limbs and power lines
  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Drive according to road conditions
  • Call 9-1-1 if you or someone you know is hurt
  • Clear your sidewalks, driveway and stairs of snow and ice
  • During heavy winds, stay safe indoors and ensure loose objects outdoors are secured
