How to report a hazard or lodge a complaint

The Kitchener Fire Department addresses all complaints about fire safety concerns.

Fire prevention inspectors can only enforce violations found under the Ontario Fire Code. Some examples of these violations include maintenance of fire safety systems, smoke alarms, blocked exits, missing or broken fire doors, severe electrical problems, improperly used or stored flammable liquids or gases, and unsafe accumulation of combustible materials.

When reporting your complaint you will need to provide:

  • Address you are calling about
  • Type or description of building
  • The nature of your complaint
  • Your call-back information

The fire prevention inspector may need to contact you for more information so a return phone number is important. We will respond to complaints within one business day. All complaints are confidential.
