Headshot of Councillor Gazzola

In office: 2002 - present

John Gazzola was first elected to the Fairview-Gateway Ward, now known simply as Ward 3, in the November 2002 by-election.

John was born in Beachville, ON and attended the University of Western Ontario where he graduated with an honours degree in economics and political science. He worked with the accounting firm of Clarkson & Gordon in London and earned his chartered accountants degree through Queens University. This firm would eventually transfer him to Kitchener.

He joined the City of Kitchener as director of finance in 1973 - the year two-tier local government was implemented. In 1985, he was appointed city treasurer and commissioner of finance and in 1995 he became the chief administrative officer - a position he held until 2001.

As a city councillor, John enjoys working directly with resident groups and speaks openly on the decisions he makes around the council horseshoe. He encourages citizens to engage themselves and let their voices be heard.

He has been married to his wife, Deanna, for  56 years. They have four children and 13 grandchildren. John is an active member of St. Francis Parish.
