Closures and cancellations

Suburbs

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all city buildings are closed to the public until May 31 and all programs and events are cancelled up to and including June 30.

During this crisis, we are taking our lead from the provincial and federal governments and Region of Waterloo Public Health and coordinate with municipal partners on our local response to the pandemic.

All summer camps are cancelled until further notice:

City of Kitchener camps cannot proceed in the same format as they have in previous years given new constraints imposed by the COVID-19 situation. As a result, summer camp programs are cancelled. The City of Kitchener refunds will occur automatically. Staff are working to process refunds as soon as possible. Due to the volume of refunds there may be some delays.

The City is exploring alternative summer camp programming options that would maintain physical distancing measures, social gathering guidelines and other protocols, should the provincial government allow day camp programming to resume.

All city-affiliated events and festivals, third-party events and festivals in city facilities are cancelled until June 30, including:

  • KW Multicultural Festival
  • Summer Lights Festival
  • Eid-ul-Fitr Festival
  • Maker Expo
  • Neighbours Day
  • TacoFest
  • Tri-Pride

The city is working with event organizers and partners to assess and identify alternate opportunities for each event. For a full list of postponed events and cancellations, click here.
