One of the ways we demonstrate openness and accountability to the community is by sharing details of our operational performance, as well as our financial position.

Each year, our financial statements are audited by an independent accounting firm and made available to the community. The annual financial report contains:

  • Consolidated financial statements, as required by the Municipal Act
  • Trust-fund financial statements
  • Separate financial statements for local boards and our utility enterprise
  • Financial and statistical review

We also produce a financial information return on an annual basis. The returns are used by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to collect financial and statistical information on Ontario municipalities.

Per Municipal Act: Within 60 days after receiving the audited financial statements of the municipality for the previous year, the treasurer of the municipality a) shall publish in a newspaper having general circulation in the municipality, i) a copy of the audited financial statements, the notes to the statements, the auditors report and the tax rate information for the current and previous year as contained in the financial review or ii) a notice that the information described in i) will be made available at no cost to any taxpayer or resident of the municipality upon request.
