Possessing a property that has been designated under the Ontario Heritage Act means you literally own a piece of our community's history.

But with this benefit comes responsibility. Your property was designated for specific reasons, and its cultural significance must be conserved.

Under the Ontario Heritage Act, if you wish to either restore, repair, renovate or disturb your property in a way that affects the reasons for its designation, you will need to apply for a heritage permit.

A heritage permit is also required if you want to erect or demolish a building or structure on a designated property if the work is likely to affect the reasons for designation.
