Cruise Downtown Kitchener this Friday

Posted On Wednesday July 10, 2019

Classic cars are coming to town this Friday, July 12 for the City of Kitchener’s annual Cruising on King Street. Celebrating its 29th year, this event has grown into one of Canada’s largest street parties. Beginning in Victoria Park at 2 p.m., approximately 140 classic cars will be on display for a show and shine. Admission is free and attendees can purchase food and drink from the food trucks that will be on location.
A classic car parade is planned to begin at 7 p.m. with vehicles leaving Victoria Park and moving to King Street. For those wanting to get a spot to watch the parade, the route is planned as follows: Victoria Park (Jubilee Dr), Park St, Victoria St S, Joseph St, Water St S, King St W.
Once vehicles have relocated to King Street, the party and the free concert begin. “With this summer being the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, we thought bringing in some tributes to iconic performances from that show would be a perfect fit,” says Jeff Young, manager of Special Events for the City of Kitchener. Tributes to The Who (The Wholigans) and Jimi Hendrix (Wild T and The Spirit) are set to begin at 8 p.m.
“What’s great about ‘Cruising’ is that it really is a multi-generational event,” adds Young. “We have grandparents bringing grandkids and people who attended in the first years who are now bringing their own kids down. If you love cars, music, or just a great summer night out in Downtown Kitchener, this one is for you.”
