Business Licensing

Businesses selling products and services within the City of Kitchener must obtain a Business Licence from the Municipality. The licences are issued by the City Clerk's office and are designed to protect the citizens of the community.

Applicants must ensure that Building, Zoning and Fire Department regulations are complied with. Other specialized businesses such as hair salons and aesthetician salons or businesses where food products are prepared or sold must also obtain approval from the Waterloo Regional Health Unit.

Persons wishing to operate a business should consult staff in the City Clerk's office at (519) 741-2275 or by email at licensing@kitchener.ca prior to operating.  Staff will be pleased to assist you the application process.

The City Clerk's office issues Business Licence Renewal Letters in mid-December. Upon receipt of the letter, please forward a cheque payable to the City of Kitchener in addition to your remittance slip. Renewals will also be accepted at our Municipal Office. We accept cash, cheque and debit card.

The listing below of approval authority departments within City Hall (and the Health Unit) are required to review your application and inspect the premises. Please feel free to contact staff of the departments if inspections are required.
