Emergency Services - Call 911
Fire, Health Care and Police

The City of Kitchener is well served with a comprehensive Health Care infrastructure as well with a Regionally run Police Services and City run Fire Protection Services.

City of Kitchener’s Emergency Plan
In your day-to-day living, disasters may seem a distant possibility. Yet natural disasters, such as floods or tornadoes; technological or environmental accidents, such as chemical spills; or service disruptions, like the massive power black-out in August 2003, can strike any community, including ours, at any time.

Like all other municipalities across the province, the City of Kitchener has been proactive in preparing and constantly reviewing and updating its official Emergency Plan. The plan provides guidance to key officials, agencies and departments within the city regarding the expected initial response to a serious, large-scale emergency and an overview of what their individual responses should be.

If you require further information about the city’s emergency resources and planning, please contact Tim Beckett, Fire Chief for the City of Kitchener, at 519-741-2926 or by e-mail to tim.beckett@kitchener.ca.

For City Residents
If you’re unprepared for a disaster, it can shatter your life. Expect the unexpected and plan for it. Knowing what to do when a disaster strikes will help you better control the situation and be in a better position to recover more quickly.

Make sure everyone in your family knows what to do before, during and after an emergency. Set up a family meeting to discuss how you can best prepare for an emergency. Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, and supplies. If evacuation is required or power is out, an emergency kit will be a vital tool for your family. For more information about how to put an emergency kit together, visit www.getprepared.ca
