Downtown Strategic Plan
At the centre of the City of Kitchener's strategy for
its downtown is the belief that it is people that create a downtown -
and on the need to draw people back to the core. Kitchener’s vision
is to make downtown a place for people. To succeed in this vision, the
downtown needs to be an area where all people, regardless of status or
background, feel welcomed. To do this, the area has to be of relevance
from a regional, city and neighbourhood context.
In the Fall of 2002, Kitchener released its Downtown
Strategic Plan - Volume I - which outlined Kitchener's vision and overall strategy for its downtown
that can serve long into the future. It summarizes downtown Kitchener’s
history, market position and strengths as well as outlines a course of
action for the future.
In the Fall of 2003, the Downtown
Strategic Plan - Volume II - The Framework was released. It furthers this strategy outlined in Volume I by developing
the framework for redevelopment efforts.
