Call for proposals for McLennan Park public art competition

Artists are asked to submit proposals for a one-stage competition to provide a site-specific work of public art for installation at McLennan Park, Kitchener, Ontario. The competition is open to artists residing in Canada.

McLennan Park is a 39-hectare (97-acre) site on the south side of Ottawa Street South, west of Strasburg Road in Kitchener. A former landfill site, McLennan Park offers BMX biking, a toboggan hill and leash-free park, among other recreational opportunities.

Further development will result in a children’s playground, splash pad, basketball/multi-use courts, beach volleyball courts, pedestrian trails, picnic areas, comfort station, skating rink, skateboard area, and natural plantings.

Artists should let their creativity and responsiveness to the site guide concept designs and locations for their proposals.

In supporting public art initiatives, the city recognizes that public, accessible art makes Kitchener a lively and engaging city. The public art program is funded through a percent for art mechanism (one per cent), which produces artworks specific to civic facilities and prominent public places.
