Centre
In The Square
An acoustical and architectural jewel, the Centre In The Square is one
of North America’s most expansive, acoustically-superior performance
halls. The 2,047-seat design offers exceptional, unobstructed views of
the stage, one of the largest in North America, as well as state-of-the-art
sound, lights and theatrical systems. Every year, approximately 150,000
audience members attend a variety of events including everything from
dance, opera, symphony, international stars, children’s performers,
mega-musicals, comedians, to magic and more.

Governor’s
House & Gaol
In 1852, Bylaw No. 2 passed by the Provisional Waterloo County Council
provided for "the erection of a Court House and Jail." Once
these structures were built, the County could be a legal entity. The Gaol
officially opened on January 23, 1853 and contained 14 single cells and
six double cells. Completely redeveloped in recent years, it's now home
to Provincial Offences Act Courtrooms. The adjacent Governor’s House,
built in 1878, and has also been restored to its former splendour and
is a popular tourist destination.

Joseph
Schneider Haus and Gallery
A national historic site, the Joseph Schneider Haus Museum and Gallery
is a dynamic community museum located in downtown Kitchener. The heart
of the complex is the fine Georgian frame farmhouse, built by one of the
area’s first pioneers, Joseph Schneider, a Pennsylvania-German Mennonite.
A local landmark and Kitchener’s oldest dwelling, the Circa 1816
homestead was restored and furnished to period and opened as a living
history museum in 1981.

Street Theatre
Completed in the fall of 2002, Kitchener’s newest
theatrical entertainment facility houses everything under one roof and
features a 383-seat changeable performance space. This flexibility in
seating plans allows the intimacy between performers and their audience
to be maximized whether it’s dance, theatre or music that is being
performed.

Public Library
The Kitchener Public Library (KPL) has been serving this community for
well over 100 years, expanding to include three community libraries besides
the main branch at 85 Queen Street North. The library is both a resource

Downtown Community Centre
Located in the former St. Mary’s High School the new Downtown Community Centre, opened in 2005, is serving the recreational needs of thousands of culturally diverse Kitchener residents, while also serving as the headquarters for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s administrative offices.
This new $3 million community centre was the result of a unique partnership between the City of Kitchener, the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, St. Mary's Parish and six downtown area neighbourhood associations (DNA).
The City of Kitchener contributed $1.7 million from its $110 million Economic Development Investment Fund to the Downtown Community Centre project.

Woodside National Historic
Site
Located on Wellington Street, Woodside is one of two national historic
sites (the other is Joseph Schneider Haus) in Kitchener.
This site is the boyhood home of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada’s
longest-serving Prime Minister. The house has been restored to the Victorian
style of the 1890s. The importance of this residence is best reflected
in King’s own words: “They years that left the most abiding
of all impressions and most in the way of family associations were those
